Anatole France, a pseudonym for Jacques Anatole Thibault (1844-1924), was a French novelist, journalist and poet. He was elected to the Académie française and won the 1921 Nobel Prize for Literature in recognition of his "brilliant literary achievements." France achieved his first commercial success with the novel 'Le Crime de Sylvestre Bonnard' (1881) and published his most celebrated work, 'La Rôtisserie de la Reine Pédauque' ('At the Sign of the Reine Pédauque') in 1893.
